About the Weekend Retreat
This special fasting and purification weekend retreat is performed in conjunction with the meditation practice of Buddha of Compassion: Thousand-armed Avalokiteshvara. Engaging in this retreat is very powerful for purifying negative karma of body, speech and mind and for pacifying strong delusions such as desirous attachment and hatred. Additionally, April 15 is Buddha’s Enlightenment Day where the power of our virtuous actions are multiplied, so it is an especially auspicious day to do retreat!
Introductory Talk
Friday, April 13, 2018
7 – 8:30pm
Buddhist nun, Kelsang Rigden will give a clear explanation of the practice and give a commentary to Drop of Essential Nectar, the prayer booklet used during the two day retreat. By learning about this special purification practice, the weekend retreat will give great meaning as the sessions will be self guided with little commentary and silence observed until lunch.
Retreat Days
Saturday, April 14 & Sunday, April 15, 2018
Mahayana precepts, A Pure Life will be led each day by Rigden and must be taken at the beginning of each day to engage in the retreat. The first day we abstain from all meals apart from a vegetarian lunch. The second day we engage in a complete fast, abstaining from all food and drink for 24 hours. Those who are unable to engage in a complete fast can participate in the sessions on the second day, provided they take the precepts.
About the Teacher
Kelsang Rigden is an ordained teacher of Modern Buddhism and Resident Teacher of KMC Winnipeg. A seasoned retreater herself, Rigden has many years of experience guiding individuals on retreats in Canada, the United States and Barbados.
